Mark Elliott represented client Sahaab Leasing to speak on the issue "Will leasing companies continue to be an important source of lending in the Middle East" at the 8th Annual Middle East and Africa Air Finance Conference in Dubai.

This session looked at the current trends in aircraft leasing in the region and the role of both regional and global lessors. The session also addressed questions about the existing order books, whether further orders by lessors in the region are forthcoming, the role of ECAs and the debate over the B787 vs. the A350.

Key issues to emerge from the discussion included

  • the financing challenges facing middle east carriers and middle east lessors, particularly with respect to large aircraft orders
  • the debate over a replacement of an engine refit for the B737 and A320 families
